colours i love - sunset orange

I think my best creations come from the way I tell people I love them.

The world is so full of loss and pain, and such a strong emotion inspires beauty of course, but sometimes there’s too much talk of loss and not enough about love. Sometimes, I want to write about love to remind myself that it exists.

I credit myself that my biggest strength is that of my ability to love and bestow love upon others. And when I found myself trying so hard to think of what to write about, I remembered that if I can attest that I love that deeply, maybe I should write something about that.

So, here begins this series - the one where I build little pictures out of words to show the ones I love what I see when I look at them. I think they resemble mood board aesthetics (because, as a writer, mood boards are my area of expertise), and are inspired by the colours I associate them with. Also, don’t worry; the subjects of my writing know their colours.

I think everyone I love deserves a poem.

sunset orange

you’re the orange in the sunset after a mellow summers day. you’re enjoyed with picnics of fresh food, like strawberries and mangos and nostalgic triangular sandwiches. the warm feeling of the sun on your face and stretching across your chest, travelling across you like water in a hot bath seeping across your skin in the moments after it prickles with the goosebumps of the cold. a feeling of safety, of home - a feeling that is so full of the kind of appreciation you get for life when being around people you love and who love you. you’re the bright orange of zest that promises adventure, but also of softness, the comfort of the end of the day. you’re the moments when you lie on your back on the boundless grass and gaze into the sunset and watch it fall into the quiet of night to reveal the distant stars, illuminating a darkening sky. the refreshing breeze that surrounds you as you reminisce on the day and realise that this moment will be one of the ones that stay with you forever.
